here is a bit about me and art!
The art that holds the most significance for me and the artists who have been my greatest inspiration are the talented members of my own family. Growing up, I quickly discovered my interest and talent for drawing. Along with my natural passion for art, the encouragement and praise of my family has continuously motivated me to pursue my passion.
When I think of the initial spark for my love of art, I go back to early memories of my grandmother’s back sunroom where she would let my sister and I spend hours painting with her watercolors. My grandparent’s house held a museum of art, many of which were my grandmother’s beautiful watercolor paintings. The room I always sleep in when I stay at my grandmother’s house is my Aunt Robyns’ old bedroom. My aunt Robyn, a talented artist, is also a great inspiration to my life and my art. In this room, there are several Gibson-girl-Esque drawings, drawn by my great-grandmother. The detail of the penwork, and the beautiful faces in the portraits have always fascinated me. Now it dawns on me that my love for these drawings has significantly influenced my art style today. When sketching, I am often drawn to a portrait style, typically portraits of women. Furthermore, I have found my preferred media to be pen and gouache which is very reminiscent of the art in my grandmother’s house.
Art is something I hold dear to my heart due to the love my family members have always shown for it. Whether it be my parents complimenting my drawings, my grandma painting with me, or my aunt Robyn’s art account on instagram. Moving forward, I hope to be able to pursue art in college as well as incorperate my creativity into a future career. Furthermore, these individuals continue to inspire me, propelling the creative passion I take with me through life.
